Hello everyone, as mentioned I have posted the discussion starters for The Ship Who Sang today, as we shall be on the road for a lot of tomorrow and then a bit tangled with grandchildren during the week. Please feel free to tackle them as and when you please
Hi everyone, if there are sundry comments about The Ship Who Sang still to come then that's cool but this is a reminder that this month's read is @clash_bowley 's choice, Arabella of Mars, to be read by the end of the month. Of course @NeilNjae has a head start on the rest of us here
Quick reminder... @clash_bowley is about to set up the discussion starters for Arabella of Mars
For December @Apocryphal has chosen Shardik and the discussion area is already set up
For January, @NeilNjae do you have any proposals?
Then it's me in February and I haven't decided yet
How about The Murderbot Diaries? They're novellas, so we might be able to fit in the first two (115 pages, 149 pages). Or perhaps we just want a light month
As no dissenting voices I'll set up the discussion area for The Murderbot Diaries vols 1 and 2 in the next few days.
I'm thinking Eversion for February - near-future SF with a slightly Gothic twist and it's a kind of "can you work out what's happening?" story with a mathematical edge. I posted about it on the Discord server about a year ago when I first read it and for some reason it popped back into my mind recently.
Eversion has been on my list of books to find for a while, but so far I haven't found a used copy - maybe because it's still pretty new. New ones are available, and possibly library too.
Over here it's available in all the standard new formats including Audio, and there are a number of second hand p/b copies... though they're not that much cheaper than a new one

Hello again, I'm just checking that we all agree that the first two in the Murderbot series are
1) All Systems Red
2) Artificial Condition

All: some chatter continuing about Shardik which is great, but as we've now reached the 18th it's probably a good time to remind everyone that January's read is parts 1 and 2 of the Murderbot series, namely All Systems Red and Artificial Condition.
@NeilNjae will be setting out discussion starters around or just after the end of the month.
I've finished reading Murderbot, so good to go, there.
I like Vance and would like to read Emphyrio. I know Neil has had some issues with our past Vance reads, so he may be less keen to give Vance another go.
My wife reupped the Audible subscription (for $1 dollar for 3 credits - always nice to have them give you a deal to try and get you to come back!) so I grabbed the first Murderbot book for free for a reread and finished it.
Also finished Eversion this morning. It came in earlier from the library so decided to get on it early.
Have only read 1 Vance book (City of the Chasch) so another would be great.
Apologies all for not getting discussion areas sorted out - we are reopening to guests today which (oddly enough) should mean I have more time for sorting such things out as we can no longer leap into maintenance or last-minute preparation!

No worries. Do we restart the rotation in April, after Emphyrio? That would be a good time to slot @kcaryths into the rotation, if he would like.

After that you have to scroll through the monthly read threads. I’ve been meaning to update the list, but haven’t gotten around to it. I could do it next weekend, probably (if I remember).

Note to self: "Remember to update list next weekend." (Skip to weekend) "Aha! I should remember to do this next weekend..." (Rinse...Repeat)

No.

I'm happy with that, and don't know anything about them

I have put up the discussion areas for the next two months, plus the usual blurb and about the author posts
That's my understanding.

@clash_bowley any ideas for March?
I'm thinking Jack Vance's Emphyrio
It's ages since I read any Vance
Well, then! High time we did so!

Murderbot questions are up. Have at them!

Yes that's right
Apres moi, le deluge...
So the current version of the rota is:
Feb Me (Eversion)
Mar @clash_bowley (Emphyrio)
Apr @kcaryths (TBD)
May @Apocryphal (TBD)
Jun @NeilNjae (TBD)
Jul Me (TBD)
and so on
That works for me. Is there a comprehensive list of what has been read before so I can take a look? I see a list up to 2018 in the thread.
