All: I have added three monthly categories for Frankenstein in Baghdad, A Hero Born, and Ancestral Night, and set up the cover blurb for each. Now's the time to set up notifications for those who like to do such things...
I read it some years ago with mixed feelings (not that this is necessarily a bad thing). I like some of Ishiguro's work but not all of it - I thought Never Let Me Go was excellent, for example, in both book and film versions, and I very much like the film of Remains of the Day (but have not read the book version). IMHO Buried Giant did not come up to these, but it might be a good one to read collectively and see what we get out of it. Someone (maybe @NeilNjae ?) suggested his Klara and the Sun which my other half has listened to on Audible (and liked very much) - to date I haven;t read that either.
I’m reading Klara right now. Klara is an ‘artificial friend’ who is purchased for an affluent teen or pre teen. It reminds me of the Somni sections of Cloud Atlas.
Hi all, we're 2/3 of the way through June now so heading towards @NeilNjae leading discussion on A Hero Born in a couple of weeks' time.
After that, July is Ancestral Night by Elizabeth Bear, led by yours truly.
In the normal course of things it would be @clash_bowley for August, unless @WildCard or @BarnerCobblewood have some spare time (as usual, no pressure, but equally I wouldn't want you to feel overlooked).
We have discussion topic areas for June and July but as yet no further depending on what titles are chosen.

Crap! I messed up and have been reading Ancestral Night! Crap! Gotta start in on Hero ASAP!

Thanks for thinking of me, but I still don’t have the capacity. I’ve been the only one in my office the past year. I’m hiring two staffers who will start on Aug. 1, and things will loosen up for me after that.

Haha - pretty optimistic on the training front, Wildcard! Last three staff we hired have actually given me more work as I have to spend half my time training and correcting.
Anyway, we did read The Golem back in the G+ era - it was a Keith Stetson choice.
As for The Buried Giant - I've been curious about that one for a while, now.

Seems staffing everywhere is difficult just now - here in the hospitality industry in the UK lots of venues are only able to open part-time. We've so far managed as we can offer staff accommodation where needed, but filling a weekly rota is still hard.
As and when you have breathing space just shout! (With relief as much as anything, I suspect)
All: I have set up a new discussion area under the monthly lot for August for The Buried Giant and added the usual back cover blurb as a discussion. Feel free to set up notifications if you use them.

I read this a couple of years ago, so I’m going to pop in and see if I have anything to contribute to the discussion.
All: as discussion eases off from A Hero Born (possibly to be rejuvenated by @clash_bowley at some stage) here's a quick reminder that July's choice is Ancestral Night, by Elizabeth Bear...

How's everyone doing with this book?
Finished
Me too
I've finished as well.
Shit, I read the wrong book. Oh well, Hero Born is completed. Will power through this in the next few days. Post the questions when you like.
Also is there any interest in reading the Buried Giant - see blurb and availability at https://www.amazon.ca/Buried-Giant-Novel-Kazuo-Ishiguro/dp/0345809416/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=buried+giant&qid=1653916545&sr=8-1 , and reviews at https://bookmarks.reviews/reviews/the-buried-giant/

I've not read any of their stuff, but it seems worthy of discussion. I'm happy to give it a go!
And @RichardAbbott , it wasn't me that suggeseted Klara.
Wasn't me either, but I would be happy to read it!

@RichardAbbott, as well as everyone who wants to join, I can lead Buried Giant in August. Let me know.
Awesome! Thanks Barner!
Meanwhile I'll set up a discussion area for Buried Giant and will post here when that's done
I'm OK for September. Not sure yet what I want to do - thinking of The Golem and the Jinni:
Didn't we read that together a while back - @Apocryphal maybe led it?
Possibly! I know I read it. If so I'll definitely find something else!

I've posted some questions about A Hero Born over in that category. I'm looking foward to your thoughts!
I wish I was more than half way into it! Sorry!

I'm ALREADY half way through that one! D'oh!
