@clash_bowley there's a whole concept album there...
@clash_bowley there's a whole concept album there...
Indeed! They all seque into each other!
@Michael_S_Miller I have tracked down all the images concerned and am steadily uploading them to this location http://datascenesdev.com/images/lotr/
So far the full size colour ones only which are at the above root plus
Feb_17_1.jpg, Feb_17_2.jpg, Feb_17_3.jpg, Apr_11.jpg, May_5_1.jpg, Jun_8.jpg
Greyscale versions of those and the others to follow...
@Michael_S_Miller here are the file names of the various images, all to be found at root
The greyscale ones are all saved at 300 dpi. I left the colour ones at their original camera dpi, which was mostly 72 but a couple (for some unaccountable reason) around 150. I don't think this matters for the e-version anyway!
Let me know if you have any problems accessing them...
Thanks, @RichardAbbott ! That will be a big help. Unfortunately, that site tells me that I don't have permission to view that directory or page. If it's easier, you could upload them to this Google Drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10Lqwe-239IQkkOmOuDOYAy1LcgmZvhEM?usp=sharing
@clash_bowley those are great. But I think some of them are even longer than the current unwieldy title. I kinda like @Ray_Otus 's The Fellowship of the Read for short and pithy. I think I'll go with that one, unless there are objections?
My suggestions were there to make people chuckle, not to actually use!
I typically go for useless and amusing. It's what's got me where I am today, old!
@clash_bowley Not a thing wrong with being amusing! I actually did a slight tweak on one of them for the back cover.
Thoughts? Almost there.
That cover ROCKS! I'm glad I could be of some silly help! Fantastic job, Michael!
Whoa - got sucked into the rabbit hole reading this for a while.
FYI, the header text "The Fellowship of the Read on..." which appears on several pages (such as 99) has the word 'fellowship' spelled with 3 Ls, like we were discussing P.G. Wodehouse or something.
The more 'l's, the tighter the fellowship. With three 'l's, the fellowship is tighter than a bull's arse in fly time!
@Michael_S_Miller apologies for the folder permissions, old habits I think they were individually accessible eg by http://datascenesdev.com/images/lotr/Feb_17_1.jpg. Or I could have used an S3 bucket. But as it is I have uploaded all to the Drive shared folder you indicated, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10Lqwe-239IQkkOmOuDOYAy1LcgmZvhEM?usp=sharing, which hopefully will present no problems now.
Let me know if all is well with them.
Thanks a bunch @RichardAbbott ! They were a big help.
@Apocryphal has the keen eyes of the ancient Numenoreans to spot that triple L in "Fellowship." And @clash_bowley is right, the more L's, the tighter the bond. As we have witnessed the triple L, we are bound, but I have removed it from the final file. That way, no one will be able to sunder our fellowship by throwing the printed book into Mount Doom.
Also, I ordered my proof copy tonight! So, I should be able to hold it in my hands next week sometime. Once I confirm that everything looks good, I'll make it available for others to order. Then, on to the e-books! (And I'll chime in on the Tombs of Atuan discussion tomorrow. Wanted to get this off my plate first)
You rock, Michael! This is going to be amazing!
Well, I'm back.
The proof arrived today and it looks great: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Sug2UWjy2DywKNd3A
There's a few little things here and there that I could tidy up, but I know if I start, I will, like Durin's Folk, dig too deep. So I'm leaving it as it is.
Here's the link to order the book from Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/the-fellowship-of-the-read/24504488 I've set it up at cost, so Lulu makes money on your order, but I do not.
I believe that Lulu prints in the UK for British orders, in Canada for Canadian orders, etc. If you order and they're going to charge international shipping, let me know. We'll find someone else to print this without you needing to pay a dragon's horde.
Next step will be the e-book, although that will likely need to wait until April as I've got a busy end of the month coming up.
Ordered mine from the UK and shipping was an entirely reasonable amount. Dragon hordes were not involved. Now the wait for it to be printed and dispatched...
Do you know for sure that dragon hordes are not involved, @RichardAbbott? I would not be that positive without real proof...
Exciting news today... "Dear Richard Abbott, We thought you would like to know that your Lulu order was shipped on 21/03/19 19:31 via Standard Royal Mail"
The book has left the Shire!
As long as those dratted shirrifs didn't confiscate it. I am sure reading is against the rules!
