Travel Light 2 - The Ending

Did the ending come as a surprise? An anti-climax? How else might the story have reached a conclusion?

For me the ending made sense and tied back to the more fantastical beginnings. It seemed like a logical way to end the book. What was the alternative? Have her retire on an island somewhere to live out a mortal life? That would have been less satisfying, I think.
