Ammonite 2: The World of Jeep

Did it feel like an alien world that humans might be drawn to settle on? Why or why not?

I definitely could see it being a place where people would go for resource extraction and study. I mean, humans are more than willing to spend long periods of time in Antarctica, and there is way less to do there. Then they were trapped after being quarantined so they had no choice at that point.

Neither Mars nor the moon seem like alien worlds people would be drawn to settle on - and yet people will be. So that's the why of a yes answer, I guess.

Not really. I think the problem was that the exotic things filled all the same niches as they do 1) on earth, 2) on typical alien worlds. Like, there's only one problematic virus? The various biomes are just like earth?

I think this was because the story itself is about North American society, not about an alternative society, and if it Jeep was too alien that point would be lost. So it was a human world first.

I agree with Barner. Physically, the world wasn't any different from Earth, just a version of Earth where there were no men.

The cultures were a bit more interesting, but that's a different question.

I agree - the world was very earth-like, with only specifics different. And the Virus.
