LEXICON (Quote) Hierodule: This word is normally used to refer to temple prostitutes or slaves, which would be odd in this context. The Lexicon Urthus tells us the word refers member of a race created by the 'Hierogramates of the higher universe, Y…

I will post questions over this weekend for Sarah Canary.

I love this series, so very happy to keep exploring it. Each book brings something new, and that’s probably because it wasn’t conceived as a series, but only became a series when the author realized she had more to say.

> @dr_mitch said: > > 40. Sarah Canary (Karen Joy Fowler). I look forward to the club discussion. Strange and harsh and sad, but oddly beautiful. Me too. I feel there’s a lot to discuss with this book. I’ll post the questions over the…

I say this every time we start a new one of these, but this is my favourite book in the series so far. I'm enjoying the writing and storytelling in these first chapters. Yes, the Ascians speaking in aphorisms is interesting. Also noted that Thecla …

Cool - as it happens, I know someone who could turn those lyrics into a song. Amiright, @clash_bowley ?

@clash_bowley Yeah, but not till chapter 5!

Noted that Arioch has been added to the list of Leviathans. And the Vodalarii are 'seditionists' who have help from the Ascians. Other than that - I'm not sure what to think. Seems were in for a whole bunch of new characters in this book, and I won…

I guess all that remains is for someone to take responsibility for running the read and pick a book.

Terminus Est is a Beheaders sword and his last tie to the Torturers, so I suppose it had to go if we’re to believe he has changed.
-
I’d be game, and it does get positive reviews, but I admit I’m skeptical of the literary quality of anything recent in the genre fiction dept.
-
Good to know, thanks. I’ll see if I can find a solution. Anyone else have a different experience?

Checking in - how are e-mail notifications working? Has anyone been receiving them for the Newsletter updates (which you can supposedly get by bookmarking the thread). Have you been getting them for categories that you follow?

TTRPBC NEWSLETTER - ISSUE 4 October 21 2019, Steilacoom, Washington Hey, look, it's October already! I have no idea where the year is going, but wherever that is, I'm going, too. You may not have noticed, but we've been here in this space - our ve…

I find I don't have much to say about these chapters, but glad to have the tip about going back to the dream.

Sci-fi: A fire upon the deep and A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge. These are two stand alone SF novels with a connecting character.

Did Cloud Atlas win a prize? That might work.

We read Ancillary Justice once as a monthly pick. I was well received, but I'm not sure it was all that literary. I'm not familiar with the Pratchet series. I think a sci-fi series or trilogy would be interesting (The Book of the New Sun is technica…

I can’t imagine doing these books by any other method, now that we’ve (3/4) done it. It definitely fits my personal criteria: great writing, long enough to warrant the slow read format, and deep so there’s a lot to talk about, and each member can…

Those who can, write. Those who can't, blurb.

Not much for me at the moment. I'm catching up on a number of things I let slide over the summer. I still have a few odds and ends to wrap up for Mythic Babylon - mainly preparing maps. I'd like to work on something else, and I have several half-ba…

Yes, that conversation was pretty confusing. It certainly seemed like it was meant to convey more than it did. I was not at all surprised that Baldanders was the giant - he played the giant Nod in the play, afterall. That Dr Talos is a homunculus i…

Watch out for that trip wire!

@clash_bowley How would you structure that game?

The fact that it's only ever called 'the chair' reveals something. It's never called 'The Memory Chair' or ARC II (Alzheimer's Rehabilitation Chair Mark II). It's always just called 'the chair' like it's the only one that exists, or even that could …
