Welcome Jesse! I think Paul’s planning to start Piranesi discussions next weekend.
-
All it is at the moment is a category into which the discussion threads can be posted. some people like to bookmark the categories so they get notified when the discussions are posted.
-
That's because the threads posing the questions haven't been started yet.
-
I've created the discussion category for this here: https://www.ttrpbc.com/categories/94-%28november-2020%29-piranesi-by-susanna-clarke

I only started counting when I noticed others talking about reading ‘50 books’ in a year and I started to get curious about how many I read (turns out 64 is about average). I don’t have any tips to share... I read a lot because I love doing it. Sitt…

M. Félix and Mr. Norton, the Two Solitudes Biscuit-Box Men. Now who's confused?
-
Cool - first time doing a short story and first time doing a movie. As it happens I have the book sitting on the shelf above my laptop, waiting to be read.

Announcements go in the Nominations category - make them easier to search for if they're all in one place. Thx
-
@RichardAbbott I think we're ready to hear your choice for December book, please.
-
Yes, well, part of the reason I've been yearning for such a book is the progressive rock kick I've been on for the past month.
-
Maybe you should introduce it! :/

For me there are bits and bobs. The 'Linguimancer' sounds fascinating. The aspects of Breakness that are about body modification and esoteric things seems cool. I would make it more about self sacrifice, though. Also, I quite like the villain that p…

I think he's interesting because he's a dark horse. As @WildCard points out, his motives are cold, but they are also obscure to us. As a reader, we know he's in the book for a reason, but his presence keeps us guessing as to the final outcome.

Good point - I'll need to remember that term.

All of the above? There's a bit of a 'mad science gone wrong' vibe which I liked about them. They reminded me a bit of Babylon 5's Technomancers, but with more of a devil-may-care adventurism about them that made them also seem a bit like English di…

Ditto - I thought it was a bit of a wasted opportunity, actually. The nature of these languages, or language itself, was really glossed over. I think I'd like to read the Kim Stanley Robinson novel that explores the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis to see whe…

Yes, I also found them to be shallow, but in my case I thought that shallowness was quite credible, given this was really quite a short book. Did they really have such different cultures? I'm not so sure. But the characters from each culture certain…

The treatment of the subject in this book is certainly lazy. I don't know Vance well enough to judge him based on these two books, but agree that women do not come off well, which is enough for me not to recommend him as an author to anyone I know. …

My guess is furry hood to match his furry windbreaker.

Woot! Woot!
-
Those both fit the description, though neither is really my cuppa. Anyone else got any? The new book from Free League describes that effort as a 'narrative artbook'.
-
@dr_mitch Please announce it in 'Nominations and Selections' thx.
-
Are ya waiting to get elected?

(Quote) The author makes a leap of faith that the universe will be irrational, finding meaning in her subjective experience. Then goes on to write a piece of fiction to express that.

I convinced you to buy Always Coming Home against your better judgement and said I'd pay your dues if you didn't like it. You were right. I was wrong. So I put my money where my mouth was.

(Image) It's all just Deep Thought to me!

BTW - October is the anniversary of our move to this forum, which means its time to pay our dues to @rossum for keeping us up an running. Can I ask any of you regulars that can spare it to hit that donate button and give $10.00? (Doesn't apply to yo…

It's a nice little piece of club memorabilia, and I'm very glad to have a copy. It'll outlast anything else we do. @RichardAbbott contributed photographs (back cover and interior) and @Ray_Otus drew a very fine front cover (which actually started o…

Ha! Nice to see you back @Ray_Otus ! Dr Mitch is picking for November, choosing between a book you've read and another one you haven't: https://www.ttrpbc.com/discussion/496/november-book-choice#latest And @RichardAbbott has picked something for D…
