I DNFed that big story in the middle - too jargony at the beginning and by the time I got to the middle I had no clue what was happening - seemed pointless to finish it - and the the author ‘kindly’ included at second version of it right after, so skipped that too. And voila! - you’re almost at the end lol.
That was exactly what happened to me! Same damn story! At least I was not alone! I'll be done soon after skipping as you did! Should have done that a while ago! That story was like pulling teeth without novocaine!
Still plenty of time to comment on Mirrorshades but now is also a good time to remember that June's pick is Temeraire, also known as His Majesty's Dragon, by Naomi Novik. Discussion starters will be put out by yours truly around the end of the month.
@All: couple of things...
1) How are people getting on with Temeraire? If all good I'll post discussion starters in about a week
2) @clash_bowley you're up in July... you talked about Harkfast by Hugh Rae - still on for that? If so I'll set up the category
Discussion still ongoing about Harkfast but this is a quick reminder that August is Planet of the Apes selected by @Apocryphal . Also, @NeilNjae do you have a title chosen for September yet?

Given that I'm in Transylvania at the moment, how about _Dracula_ ?

If most of us have read it, there's plenty else to read. Perhaps _Nettle and Bone_ by T. Kingfisher? I've wanted to read some of her serious adult fiction for a while (she's very good at the lighthearted stuff).

I'm currently listening to her Thornhedge, a retelling from a different and engaging angle of Sleeping Beauty.

IIRC it was the Brides of Dracula...
That aside, it's me in the rotation for October and I've almost decided... watch this space...
My current thinking is The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey, keeping with our "classics" theme (the separate stories were written between 1961 and 1969, in which year they were collated into a novel). We haven't read this together since I've been a member so I'm just checking that it wasn't a title previously?

I'm almost finished re-reading as well. I will be happy to do Harkfast in July.
Harkfast category set up now
How cool! I've never read it
I've finished Temeraire. I've not read either Harkfast or Planet of the Apes, so looking forward to them.
Discussion starters for Temeraire now in place...
Cover blurb and about-the-author now posted as a category for @Apocryphal 's choice for August, Planet of the Apes
Discussion still ongoing about Harkfast but this is a quick reminder that August is Planet of the Apes selected by @Apocryphal . Also, @NeilNjae do you have a title chosen for September yet?

It's been a minute since I read that last.

Does that mean you read it only a short time ago? Or that you haven’t read it in a long time?
The latter
I don't think I've ever read it so sure, let's go for it!
I read it several times, but the last was perhaps 20 years ago, so I would be up for it!
I'm currently listening to her Thornhedge, a retelling from a different and engaging angle of Sleeping Beauty.
Discussion area for Dracula set up

I've never read it, so probably not...
