what's the difference between A, B and C? Where do the retiring geeks congregate?
No real difference - it's just that if there are more than say 6 or so people, we'll be spread out over different virtual tables, otherwise it will get unwieldy. You should be able to see who's there when you click on a link before you join. I think it's a case of table A, then work down the alphabet. Should be fun! Or chaos. Or empty.
Apologies for absence but with the government's announcement today I am currently sorting out issues with, and the next few weeks of, the actual pub. Please raise a virtual glass for me when it's open
Damn! I missed this! :O
Hopefully I will make it!
5pm EST
Thank you, @Apocryphal!

Important clarification.

In pub cricket, that would be a dropped catch or am I the only one who knows of that arcane game?
Isn't having a pub cricket against the health laws?
only if it's cruel and unusual confinement...
But for those who haven't come across it, the rules for this two-player game are:
1) Any pub name with legs implied counts that many runs... The Swan would be 2, The Dun Cow would be 4, The Coach and Horses might be 16 (unless you argue convincingly for only two horses pulling)
2) Any pub name with no legs counts as out... The Mitre, The Crown etc
3) Any pub name with "Arms" counts as a dropped catch so no runs but not out... The Kings Arms, The Mitchester Arms etc
You can either take turns scoring until you're out, or on a long journey you can play like regular cricket and play until you have had ten wickets against you.
It has to be said that the game worked much better in the days when main roads went through towns and villages, so you got to go past a lot of pubs, and it kind of fails in these days of motorways when you don't often see any buildings of real interest, let alone pubs...
Ah! A travel game! Horrible for a superhighway, great for a two lane blacktop! Sounds like fun!
Beer comes in PINTS here!
Big folk as well as little...
I'm shocked and stunned I had never heard of this game. I know dart cricket, but that's completely different. Maybe I'll work it into a Liminal supplement. Thank-you Richard.
Reminder to @clash_bowley and @RichardAbbott and anyone else interested (@Michael_S_Miller ?) that this is on again today. 9pm GMT or 5pm EST.
Thanks for the invite. Working from home has been draining, with so many phone calls. Maybe next week.
It could be a useful book club recruiting ground if you don't mind the club being flooded with mainly middle-aged British men.
I am afraid I was worse than useless. My wife had the TV on, and you were all hearing it - Apocryphal alerted me to it, but I didn't look at my email 'til later. Eventually she muted it, but a little late. I think I will have to switch mics for it. I was using my singing mic, and I think that has too broad a pickup.
Also the topic seemed to be fantasy, which I am no good with, so I mostly listened.
@clash_bowley You came in after most people left, but there were about 20 people spread between 3 rooms about an hour into the affair. I floated a bunch of books past those in my room and think I've got the June pick down.

Ahhh, sorry all, I have kind of lost track of days with all this self-isolating and none of the regular work patterns. Thanks for the reminder but didn't spot it until too late. I'll try again next week if it's on again
By the way, in the UK the clocks go forward tonight. So that means for my friends across the Atlantic where the clocks have already gone forward, there's a different time difference.
9 PM GMT will then be 4PM EST - 5 hours being the usual difference.
I ended up going through a lot of the formal process yesterday following my father's death just over a week ago - not at all COVID-19 related, and not at all unexpected as he has been in decline for a long time. But the process has been made more complex and drawn out by the restrictions on travel and such like that we are all facing. So I ended up asleep before 9pm last night!
By way of family balance, my daughter had a baby a couple of days later, though of course we're having to make do with video calls to see what our new granddaughter looks like.
Strange times.
