Tripoint Q5 - Roleplaying

The traditional final question: Can you use Tripoint in your gaming in any way, shape or form? Would it help in background development? Character planning? Starship economics? Setting development?

    Setting - to me it seemed kind of generic, at least as presented here. That might be because Cherryh has been copied a lot! I can absolutely see the influence of Cherryh on Star Cluster, and I can also see it on the kind of sessions Clash runs for him home crew (based on session reports I've read over the years).

    So, to me the setting isn't something I would use per se - but it's also something I could probably not help but use, because this kind of ship-space station-planet setup with crews being their own universe is pretty ubiquitous, right? I mean, when I ran High Strung and I set it on a space station and the band was dealing with rival bands and looking for the arrival of the talent scout - was I not also running Cherryh without being conscious of it? I suspect I was.

    I do rather like the Stevedores in Space thing, more than I like military SF, so that totally works for me.

    I think I could pinch this plot (though I might not do the rape thing due to other gamer tastes). I do like the idea of a child and two estranged parents being a 'three body problem' and the PCs need to solve.

    I like that the setting is small-scale, with most decisions being made by individuals or small groups; there are no huge, sprawling bureaucracies and vast governments here. That makes it good for gaming, as the PCs can be the ones making consequential decisions. The blue-collar, industrial vibe also makes the characters relatable to gaming, I think.

    The setting mostly works the same as the real world, and the changes are nailed down enough to be believable technology, so that again makes for an easy-to-game setting.

    The situation and plot also shows how you could spin out a good story from a few characters with emotional problems, when placed in a pessured situation.
